Your Ardèche holiday is incomplete without a canoe descent through the Gorges! You could just spend a day canoeing in the Ardèche Gorges (24 or 32 km). But to get the most out of your nature experience, we recommend you opt for a 2-day adventure and spend a night in the heart of this exceptional and preserved nature reserve.
No need to be an expert to enjoy a canoe descent of the Ardèche Gorges. You just need to be able to swim and be at least 7 years old. It is of course preferable, however, to be in good physical condition to cover the 24 or 32 km of river between Vallon Pont d’Arc and St Martin d’Ardèche.
So are you ready? Let’s go! You can paddle at your own pace. Take it easy when the water is calm and paddle vigorously when you hit the rapids. Take a break. Have a snooze in the shade of an oak tree, or cool off by bathing at a nearly hidden beach. Enjoy a picnic contemplating the cliffs opposite and, whatever you do, remember to look up, it’s beautiful!
So that everyone can benefit from this preserved environment, wild camping is prohibited in the Nature Reserve. The only overnight option is to camp at a bivouac pitch by the river. At the foot of the cliffs, under your tent or under the stars, let the sweet, soothing sound of the Ardèche River accompany your return to the essentials…
Warning! There are no shops or restaurants in the Nature Reserve, nothing but nature! You will need to bring:
– A tent (unless you prefer to sleep outside!)
– A sleeping bag
– Food: evening meal, plus breakfast and lunch for the following day
– First aid kit
– Torch (the site is unlit)
Present on site:
– Reserve rangers
– First aid station
– Toilets, showers and drinking water
– Tables and barbecue facilities – grills and charcoal are provided.
